Collins Long was established by name partners James Collins and Simon Long in May 2000 to provide specialist advice to clients involved in the entertainment industries. Between them, Simon and James have over 25 years experience advising on legal and business issues within the entertainment business.

Daniel Whittington joined in 2003 and the practice continues in its commitment to service clients in a professional and commonsense manner.

Collins Long recognised from its inception in 2000 that lawyers would need more than just legal skills if they were to survive the rapidly changing face of deal-making in the music, film and television industries.

We are aware that as the nature of the media and entertainment industries changed profoundly, also our clients' expectations of their professional advisors similarly changed. Clients have become far more savvy in the legal advice they require and expect us as their lawyers to be aware of and advise on all of the pros and cons of dealings with different labels, publishers, managers etc. and not merely limiting ourselves to the (purely) legal aspects of negotiation.

We have acted for clients ranging across the whole industry spectrum in which the firm operates, from major recording and publishing companies to small independent labels, and from superstar artists and songwriters to individuals looking for their first deal. We also have experience of television, film, design, trademark and e-commerce matters and in particular, representing television and film production companies, actors, celebrities and their agents.

Collins Long aims to distil this experience into a small, friendly and approachable firm that is able to tailor its services to meet all needs no matter how big or small. We aim to become an integral part of our clients' business rather than an occasional reference point in times of trouble. We offer a personal service, where clients have full access to us at all times.
